The government has eliminated fifty-four thousand vacant positions and initiated the closure of entities such as the Utility Stores Corporation as part of a significant rightsizing effort, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced today.
Speaking at an event in the capital today, the minister detailed that the abolishment of posts, effective as of 30th September, is projected to yield an annual saving of fifty-six billion rupees. He added that the government is also merging various ministries.
Aurangzeb framed these actions as part of essential structural reforms designed to set the nation on a course for sustainable economic growth. He pointed to ongoing overhauls in the taxation, energy, and other pivotal sectors.
According to the finance minister, Pakistan has successfully consolidated its macroeconomic gains. He cited positive performance and expansion in diverse industries, including cement, fertilizer, automobiles, mobile phones, and the large-scale manufacturing sector.
In his address, Aurangzeb also touched upon global economic instability, citing geopolitical tensions, trade fragmentation, and supply-chain realignments as significant challenges. He stressed the necessity for all nations, including Pakistan, to develop robust fiscal and external buffers to withstand such exogenous shocks.
