Pakistan’s Economic Take-Off Hinges on Eradicating Terrorism, Declares PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today declared that sustainable economic progress is unattainable for the country without the complete eradication of terrorism, extremism, and sectarianism, delivering the stark message during an address to the National Ulema Convention.

Addressing a gathering of religious scholars, the Prime Minister called upon them to play a proactive role in discouraging sectarian divisions and fostering an environment of unity, harmony, and brotherhood across all schools of thought.

Mr. Sharif emphasized that establishing a climate of national cohesion is essential for securing the nation”s future prosperity and advancement. Confronting the threat of terrorism directly, the premier identified assailants, whom he referred to as “Khawarij,” as being responsible for attacks on innocent civilians and security forces. He also shared his encounters with the families of martyred soldiers, noting their profound pride in the sacrifices made for the nation”s safety.

On the economic front, Prime Minister Sharif conveyed a message of optimism, stating that Pakistan has reached a stage where it is on the verge of a take-off towards accelerated growth. He credited the nation”s political and military leadership for their tireless efforts in navigating the country away from the risk of default.

He reiterated that national unity was indispensable for confronting all challenges facing the country and for achieving long-term stability and development.

The high-profile convention included the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir, alongside a significant contingent of religious figures from diverse theological backgrounds.
