President Asif Ali Zardari today issued a stark warning that numerous species across Pakistan are under severe strain, threatened by a combination of habitat loss, climate pressures, illegal hunting, and the unsustainable use of land and water resources.
In a message commemorating World Wildlife Day, the President highlighted that the nation is home to remarkable biodiversity, with ecosystems ranging from forests and wetlands to mountains and coastal regions. He emphasised that these natural assets are central to the country”s environmental stability, underpinning vital agriculture, water systems, and the livelihoods of its people.
Mr Zardari described wildlife preservation as a practical responsibility for all citizens, requiring sustained collective efforts. He stressed that effective conservation hinges on steady work by public authorities, robust cooperation from local communities, and a widespread respect for environmental laws.
Reaffirming the government’s position, the President stated that Pakistan is committed to protecting vulnerable habitats, halting illicit hunting activities, and supporting community-led conservation initiatives.
