Palestinian cause is Kingdom’s top priority, Saudi envoy tells Security Council

New York Saudi Arabia affirmed that the cause of Palestine is its top priority and any proposed solution that does not include the right of Palestinians to establish their independent state on the borders of 4 June 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital, will not succeed.

This came in the Kingdom’s speech, during the quarterly open debate on the Middle East at the United Nations Security Council on Monday, delivered by Saudi Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya AlMouallimi.

The Saudi diplomat stated that Israel had clearly failed to fulfill its obligations, under the UN Charter, in its continued violations of human rights. He stressed that Saudi Arabia would remain committed to the international legal frameworks represented by Security Council resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative, adding that the Kingdom reaffirms the importance of protecting the Palestinian people.

Mouallimi explained that Saudi Arabia affirmed its position on the Syrian Golan as an occupied land in accordance with Security Council Resolutions 242 (1967) and 497 (1981) and rejected any decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan.
