Pashtun Council locks PU gates to protest arrest of its chairman

LAHORE: The students of the Pashtun Council Friday locked the gates of Punjab University (PU) in protest against the arrest of their chairman Riaz Khan. The university buses could not leave for their respective routes as the Gate No. 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 had been locked by the protesting students.

Large contingents of police also reached the university to deal with any untoward situation. The staff and students were also present outside the university, for they could not make their entry into the campus. A few days back, the Pashtun Council had stated a protest demonstration against the police and administration for arresting their chairman.

They had also blocked Gate No. 1 of the university in protest, declaring that their sit-in would continue till the release of their chairman. The teachers, students, passers-by and commuters had faced difficulties in transportation due to the closure of the main gate. It merits a mention here that the police had arrested Pashtun Council Chairman Riaz Khan for disturbing the law and order situation on the request of the university administration.
