PCMAEA shows concern over unresolved issues of carpet industry

LAHORE: Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) Sunday has expressed concern over the unresolved issues related to exports with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and demanded that practical steps be taken to address them on exigent basis.

A meeting of the association was held under the chairmanship of senior vice chairman Riaz Ahmed, which was attended by Carpet Training Institute (CTI) Chairperson Pervez Hanif, senior central leader Abdul Latif Malik, Muhammad Akbar Malik, Saeed Khan, Major (retd) Akhtar Nazir, Daniel Hanif, Faisal Saeed Khan and others.

Issues related to carpet industry were discussed in detail in the meeting. Riaz Ahmed said that some of the SBP’s barriers to exports were unjustified due to which foreign customers were also disgusted. “The exports of the handmade carpet industry are very different from the exports of other products but the SBP is not ready to accept our justification while the audit issues are also unresolved,” he added.

He demanded that a detailed meeting should be held to understand our problems as soon as possible. We also appeal to the Prime Minister Imran Khan to assign a special responsibility to one of his representatives to whom we can confide him of our problems so that the handmade carpet industry, which is in crisis, can breathe a sigh of relief. He said that despite being a part of the export sector, the manufacturers were deeply concerned over the unresolved issues.
