PDP assails police over looting of its media coordinator’s son

Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor today voiced serious concern over a resurgence in street crime across the metropolis, stating that law enforcement has failed to provide security to citizens following an armed robbery targeting the son of a party official on a major thoroughfare.

The condemnation came after three armed assailants on a motorcycle intercepted the son of PDP media coordinator Aziz Fatima at the FTC Flyover on Thursday. The victim, who was returning from his office, was deprived of his motorcycle, mobile phone, purse, and other valuables.

This marks the second such incident for the family in recent weeks, as another of Ms Fatima’s sons was robbed by bandits on January 6 at the nearby Nursery flyover.

Mr Shakoor highlighted the worrying trend of criminals operating with impunity on the busy Shahrah-e-Faisal. He asserted that citizens often face significant trouble when attempting to lodge a First Information Report (FIR), claiming the police are frequently uncooperative.

The PDP Chairman criticised what he described as a “colonial era” culture within police stations, which he alleges discourages citizens from formally registering their cases.

He said that both the police and the Rangers, despite their deployment in the city, had been unsuccessful in improving the law-and-order situation, allowing armed criminals to roam freely and target residents without fear.

In response to the escalating crime, Mr Shakoor called for the Karachi police to immediately increase patrolling and establish security checkpoints in high-risk areas.

He demanded that justice be provided to Ms Fatima and other affected residents through the swift arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of their stolen possessions. Furthermore, he urged the expedited implementation of the proposed Safe City project to enhance security across Karachi.
