PIA panel to probe in-flight harassment of air-hostess

KARACHI: In yet another incident of harassment, an air-hostess was allegedly harassed by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) lady grooming manager during a flight, according to a report on Monday.

The female victim sent an email to the relevant authorities, making four serious allegations against the lady officer. The incident of alleged harassment by the officer took place on the flight from Karachi to Toronto.

A three-member committee headed by the deputy general manager (DGM) for security was also set up to investigate the incident. Other members of the committee include the female assistant manager, and the in-charge SEC Jinnah International Airport. The committee has summoned the female grooming manager involved in the alleged harassment on March 27.

In the email sent by victim Ufaq Shah, it was stated that the officer named Memoona Feroz passed inappropriate remarks and adopted insulting behavior towards her during the flight. Moreover, she also threatened the air-hostess with negative review on her annual compliance reporting (ACR), and to send her to training centre as punishment.

Not only this, the manager also targeted the air-hostess on her uniform in front of the crew and co-hostess. Her email further stated that the officer did not say anything to the grooming violations of the manager’s sister, who was also an air-hostess on the same flight. It added that another air-hostess has also submitted similar complaints against the female officer. Following that, the committee has also summoned the woman officer’s sister.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has also asked the involved woman officer not to be appointed to any important post for five years. According to a PIA spokesperson, the formed committee will submit a report on March 29, and that an action will be taken against those found responsible in the investigation.
