PMA holds candlelight vigil for doctors who died of Covid

KARACHI:Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) on Saturday held a candlelight Vigil at PMA House to pay tribute to doctors who lost their lives due Coronavirus in the country.

 

A large number of medical fraternity, family members of virus victim doctors and their relatives attended the ceremony. It was also attended by Central Leader of PMA Prof Dr Tipu Sultan, Secretary General, PMA-Centre- Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Treasurer PMA Centre, Dr Qazi Wasiq, Dr Shoukat Malik and others.

 

Secretary General, PMA Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, while talking to PPI, said a total of 133 healthcare professionals had lost their lives in fight against coronavirus across the country till date out of which 109 were doctors and 24 other medical staff. He informed that COVID-19 had claimed 49 lives of doctors in Punjab, 34 in Sindh, 19 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, five in Balochistan, one each in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

 

He said second wave of coronavirus could be proved dangerous, thus the federal and provincial governments should ensure strict implementation of precautionary measures to control the prevalence of COVID-19. He advised the citizens to wear masks, wash hands regularly and avoid public gatherings to stay safe from COVID-19.

 

The PMA has demanded of the federal and provincial government to fulfill the demanded they had made with doctors. In the end, PMA distributed appreciation certificates among the family members of virus victim doctors.
