PMA shows concern over Baluchistan situation

KARACHI:Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) is very much concerned over the situation in Baluchistan, particularly in Quetta.

Secretary General, Pakistan Medical Association (Centre), Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad in his statement on Thursday said the protesting government employees had blocked all the national highways to force the government to meet their demands including a 25% increase in salaries.

“These employees have been holding sit-ins in Quetta and other cities of Baluchistan. These sit-ins have paralyzed life in the province. Sick people are not able to reach hospitals for their treatment. Paramedics and nurses are unable to reach their hospitals to perform their duties. Due to this protest, the health delivery system of the province is partially closed. The situation is increasing the sufferings of sick people and their families,” he said.

He said PMA supported the government employees of Baluchistan for their genuine demands. He said: “We demand from the Government of Baluchistan to negotiate with the leadership of these employees, show leniency towards its own employees and meet all their genuine demands. Government should at once resolve the issue to end the difficulties of all the citizens’ especially the sick ones.”

Dr Qaisar Sajjad appealed to Governor and the Chief Minister of Baluchistan to look into the matter and resolve the issue amicably.
