Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has termed the eradication of polio a matter of national prestige, expressing concern that Pakistan is among the few countries in the world where the disease still exists. His remarks came at the launch of the week-long national polio campaign.
The Governor made a strong appeal for public cooperation during the immunization drive, which will run from Monday, December 15 to 21. He stressed that eradicating this “terrible disease” is a collective national responsibility and urged parents and guardians to ensure that every child under the age of five receives the essential polio drops to save future generations from disability.
Mr. Tessori highlighted that success against the virus depends on the united efforts of the public, the government, and relevant institutions.
He praised the polio workers, who often go door-to-door to administer the vaccine in difficult conditions, calling them “true benefactors of the nation” and stressed the public’s duty to fully cooperate with and encourage them.
Addressing potential misinformation, the Sindh Governor called on citizens to ignore any kind of rumors and confirmed that the polio drops are both safe and effective. He said these drops are the only way to protect children from lifelong disability.
The Governor concluded by saying, “Let us pledge that together we will turn the dream of a polio-free Pakistan into a reality and play our full part in this national struggle.” He described the campaign as a crucial effort to secure the future of the coming generations.
