Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Sindh president Haleem Adil Sheikh today declared the imprisonment of party chairman Imran Khan as a ‘grave violation of human rights,’ citing his 789 days of detention.

He in a statement criticized the prison authorities for denying Khan fundamental rights, such as medical care and legal representation, and described the conditions as ‘worse than those reserved for terrorists.’

Sheikh accused the government of fabricating cases against the PTI chief and demanded an immediate cessation of jail trials, claiming it breaches the Constitution and legal standards. He referenced a Commonwealth report labeling the February 8 general elections as ‘rigged,’ asserting that PTI was unjustly barred from participating.

He called for the removal of the chief election commissioner, arguing the position”s lack of moral and constitutional credibility in light of the report. Sheikh dismissed the political rivalry between PML-N and PPP as mere theatrics, alleging both parties were complicit in protecting corruption and undermining the public”s will. He emphasized PTI”s commitment to exposing what he described as the theft of the public mandate.

Regarding international affairs, Sheikh criticized the Gaza peace initiative, labeling it a betrayal of Palestinian interests. He reaffirmed Pakistan”s stance of not recognizing Israel and supporting an independent Palestinian state. He accused the current government of compromising national policy to appease global powers, which he argued was detrimental to Pakistan”s interests.

In domestic matters, he addressed the situation in Azad Kashmir, urging immediate recognition of the Kashmiri people”s legitimate demands. He condemned the ongoing crackdown and media blackout, describing them as ‘shameful acts’ that could exacerbate the situation.

Criticizing economic policies, Sheikh denounced the recent increase in petroleum prices, noting the contradiction with falling global oil prices. He labeled the hike as ‘anti-poor’ and demanded its reversal to alleviate the financial burden on citizens.
