A call for drastic austerity measures, including a 50 per cent salary reduction for the prime minister and cabinet members, has been issued by Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, the Secretary General of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Parliamentarians, as a means to enhance national stability.
In a statement today addressing the nation’s response to shifting global and regional dynamics, Bukhari proposed that the defence budget be increased by implementing significant cuts in government spending. This includes a suggested 50 per cent cut in the official expenses of both the President’s and Prime Minister’s offices.
The PPP leader also stressed that the country’s elite class must contribute their fair share, urging them to pay requisite taxes on their assets and income to support the national cause.
Further recommendations included reducing government expenditure on parliamentary affairs and scaling back spending on official foreign trips.
Bukhari emphasised that the national interest must remain the foremost priority, calling on all stakeholders to work collaboratively to strengthen the country amidst current challenges.
