Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani reiterated Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to urban development during an inauguration ceremony in Malir. He emphasized that PPP serves not just rural areas, but all major cities, citing ongoing billion-rupee projects across Sindh, including Karachi, slated for completion this fiscal year. The event marked the inauguration of the Malir Union Football Stadium, community centers, and other completed projects.
Ghani highlighted the government’s substantial investments in water and sanitation initiatives, mentioning similar projects for various districts of Karachi. Sindh Assembly members Raja Razzaq, Saleem Baloch, Malir Town Chairman Jan Muhammad Baloch, Imdad Jokhio, Town Chairman Ibrahim Hyderi, Nazir Bhutto, and others also addressed the occasion. A large number of citizens, local leaders, and party officials, including Shah Jahan Khan, Riaz Baloch, Malik Wahab, Mir Ayub Baloch, UC Chairmen of District Malir, elected representatives, PPP district officials, and the public were present.
The minister cited the expedited completion of public welfare programs across all districts of Karachi, showcasing the stadium and two other projects in Malir district, including a community center constructed by TMC Malir, as examples of initiatives benefiting local residents. He highlighted PPP’s efforts to address the needs of the Malir community in sports, education, and other civic matters. Ghani termed Malir a PPP stronghold since the party’s inception and praised party workers’ dedication, especially during challenging times. He reiterated the party’s commitment to the people of Malir, who have consistently shown their support through elections. He commended local authorities and elected members of national and provincial assemblies for their continued service to Malir’s residents.
Ghani described Shahrah-e-Bhutto as a vital project benefiting four districts simultaneously, with its final section to Kathore expected to be completed by December. He clarified that the delay in the K-IV project isn’t PPP’s responsibility. He explained that in 2018, during his first term as Local Government Minister, the project’s initial cost was 25 billion rupees, to be shared equally by the federal and Sindh governments. He later discovered the project lacked essential elements, rendering it impractical. He attributed the project’s escalating cost and eventual halting during Imran Khan’s government to misunderstandings and inadequate assessments. He expressed hope for the project’s swift completion under the Muslim League (N) federal leadership.
Ghani announced a 70 billion rupee investment in Karachi’s internal water network as part of the K-IV project, with WAPDA tasked by the federal government to ensure water supply to the city. He anticipated the commencement of water supply from Hub Canal on August 14th and confirmed requests to the national government for a larger share of water from Hub Dam. He also mentioned several other ongoing development projects across Sindh.
