PPP Withdraws LA-23 Candidate in Favour of JUI-F Ahead of AJK Elections

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has withdrawn its candidate from the LA-23 constituency in favour of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) nominee ahead of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general elections scheduled for July 27.

The announcement was made during a meeting at Zardari House in Islamabad between PPP Women’s Wing Central President and AJK political affairs in-charge Faryal Talpur and JUI-F Azad Kashmir chief Maulana Saeed Yousaf, according to a repor today.

Sardar Muhammad Hussain, Azad Kashmir’s Minister for Ushr, Zakat and Social Welfare and the PPP’s nominated candidate for LA-23, attended the meeting and formally announced his withdrawal from the electoral contest in line with the party’s decision.

Following the announcement, Maulana Saeed Yousaf expressed gratitude to the PPP leadership for withdrawing its candidate and extending support to his candidacy.

Senior PPP Azad Jammu and Kashmir leader Chaudhry Riaz also attended the meeting.

The withdrawal comes as political parties continue to finalise electoral arrangements and alliances ahead of the July 27 polls in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
