President Greenlights Sentence Remission, Approves Raft of Legislative Changes

President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a special remission in prison sentences to mark the upcoming occasions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Pakistan Day, 2026. The presidential assent was also granted to a significant package of nine legislative bills, a key governmental appointment, and the conferment of civil awards.

According to information today, the series of legislative measures receiving the president’s approval includes a wide range of amendments for the year 2026. These encompass The Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, The Newspaper Employees (Condition of Service) Amendment Bill, and The Zakat and Ushr (Amendment) Bill.

Further legislation signed into law includes amendments to The National Archives, The Pakistan Names and Emblems (Prevention and Unauthorised Use), The Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation, The Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority, and The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority.

Additionally, the president gave his assent to The Daanish University Islamabad Bill, 2026.

In a separate administrative decision, Mr Eazaz Aslam Dar”s appointment as a Member of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) was formally approved. Mr Dar will fill the position against the quota for Balochistan.

The president also sanctioned the conferment of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz upon three individuals in recognition of their services. The recipients are Professor Sarwar Muhammad Khawaja, Mr Rashid Malik, and Mr Zain ul Abideen Ahsan.
