Prime Minister’s Advisor on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam chairs first meeting of Inter-Ministerial Committee on Electric Vehicles

Islamabad, December 27, 2019 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister’s Advisor on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam chaired the first meeting of Inter-Ministerial Committee on Electric Vehicles (EV), according to press statement issued today. The meeting was attended by all relevant stakeholders including representative of Federal Ministries, Provincial Departments and representatives from the Private Sector.

The Advisor, in his opening remarks, indicated that promoting EVs is a direction towards creating opportunities with multiple benefits which includes addressing vehicular pollution, reducing fuel import bill, all to experts, by 2030, anywhere between US$ 1.5 billion to $6.9 billion per annum of annual foreign exchange savings are estimated creating livelihoods and introducing a new value chain industry.

The meeting was convened as per directions of the Federal Cabinet to discuss the incentives packages of the National EV policy and to address the concerns of manufactures, if any. To proceed further, relevant stake holders were asked to provide there inputs on the incentives package provided in the EV policy. The participants of the meeting appreciated the Government’s policy direction regarding EV penetration through an incentivized approach leading to EV manufacturing within the country.
