Professor Ibrahim Memon Beach Tennis Tournament concluded at Hyderabad Public School

An exciting display of athletics and camaraderie was witnessed during the third Professor Dr. Ibrahim Memon Beach Tennis Tournament held at Hyderabad Public School. According to a press release issued today, the event was organized on the institution’s newly established sand court, which was a significant step towards promoting beach tennis in Sindh.

The venue was crafted from the sands of the Indus River, providing a true beach tennis experience, while equipment supplied by Sandaver with the support of the International Tennis Federation ensured high-quality play. These resources were presented to the school’s principal Iqbal Memon by the Pakistan Tennis Federation and the Sindh Tennis Association, reflecting a joint effort to nurture this emerging sport.

The tournament, backed by the technical and administrative support of the Hyderabad and Sindh Tennis Associations, saw enthusiastic participation from players competing in 16-16 matches in the women’s singles and men’s doubles categories. Female players from Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, and Jamshoro enhanced the event’s diversity and inclusivity with their presence, further improved by the organizers’ decision to waive the entry fee.

Iqbal Memon, who plays a pivotal role in promoting sports in the region, dedicated the event to the memory of his late father, Professor Dr. Ibrahim Memon. His commitment to the sport has been demonstrated through the support of various prestigious venues, including four beach tennis tournaments at Liaquat University and the banks of the Indus River.

The event was graced by Tarek Bajari, Secretary of Hyderabad Gymkhana, as the chief guest, while prominent figures from the Sindh, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas Tennis Associations were also present. Bajari and Vice President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, Muhammad Khalid Rahmani, commended Iqbal Memon’s efforts in youth sports development and proposed future collaboration with Hyderabad Gymkhana.

In a spirit of collaboration, Iqbal Memon offered the school’s state-of-the-art facilities for hosting provincial and national tennis championships, demonstrating a strong commitment to fostering excellence in the sport.

The tournament concluded with exciting finals. Zainab Rehan defeated Sana Baloch in the women’s singles competition, while Rehan Sheikh and Muhammad Ali Khattak triumphed over Asad Bachani and Shahzad in the men’s doubles.

The successful organization of the event under the leadership of Rehan Sheikh and Asad Bachani highlighted the synergy between various tennis bodies and local institutions, promising a bright future for beach tennis in the region.
