The ongoing protest campaign by the residents of Nasirabad demanding basic health facilities entered its 59th day on Monday. Protesters have accused the government of negligence, forcing poor people to seek unbearably expensive private medical treatment.
Organized by the Vigilant Citizens Alliance, the movement continued with a protest march in Padmal village. The procession was led by Alliance President Comrade Muhammad Rafi Laghari, accompanied by other community leaders such as Sufi Ghaffar Channo, Comrade Asif Kathio, Ikhtiyar Gunwas, and Altaf Mosan.
A large number of villagers participated in the rally, carrying banners and placards and chanting strong slogans against the government and the health department. The protesters stated that the absence of basic treatment facilities leaves poor patients with no choice but to go to expensive private hospitals, where treatment is beyond their financial means.
Addressing the crowd, the organizers declared that the people of Taluka Nasirabad will no longer accept the “false promises” of their elected representatives. They put forth specific demands for the immediate start of construction work on the Taluka Hospital and to ensure the guaranteed and consistent supply of medicines in all rural health centers.
The leaders concluded by making it clear that their protest movement would continue with full vigor until their demands for proper health infrastructure and facilities are fully met by the authorities.
