Protest held against rising killings of coal miners

QUETTA: Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation has strongly condemned the frequent deadly incidents in coal mines of the province and demanded of the authorities to take steps for its prevention.

This demand was made in a protest demonstration held outside Quetta Press Club here on Tuesday under the aegis of Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation. Addressing the protest demonstration, President, Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation, Sultan Muhammad Khan, Secretary General, Abdul Sattar, Provincial Chairman, Shah Ali Bughti, Ghafar and others said that some coal mines field areas of Balochistan had become slaughterhouse.

They said according to data compiled by Federation, 60 coal miners had so far lost their lives in different coal mines incidents occurred in different areas of the province. They said that death compensation was Rs 5 lac in other parts of the country while in Balochistan Rs 2 lac had been fixed as head of death compensation. They called on authorities to bring death compensation of Balochistan province at par with other provinces of the country.

They said that BIRA, Act had been awaiting approval of the Secretary, Labour and Manpower Department, Government of Balochistan for the last 11 years due to unknown reasons. They called on authorities to take steps so that deadly incidents in coal mines of the province could be thwarted.
