Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President, Haleem Adil Sheikh, today assailed the extended incarceration of party founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, describing it as a blatant violation of fundamental human rights.
Mr Sheikh said in a statement today that keeping the former prime minister in solitary confinement for a sustained period was not only unconstitutional but also contravened international human rights legislation.
Voicing significant apprehension over Mr Khan’s well-being, the PTI leader demanded that he should be granted immediate access to his personal physicians for a comprehensive and transparent medical evaluation.
He further insisted that Mr Khan should be transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital without delay and that his family members must be permitted to be present during the examination to ensure full transparency.
Sheikh also denounced the limitations placed on meetings between Imran Khan and his family, lawyers, and party officials. He asserted that obstructing such access, despite court orders, reflected the government”s ‘mala fide intent’ and constituted a clear breach of the Constitution and law. Criticising the current administration’s performance, he claimed the ruling authorities had failed to resolve the nation’s most pressing problems.
According to the PTI Sindh president, severe financial strain is being placed on the public due to continuous price increases for electricity, gas, petrol, and other essential commodities, making life exceptionally difficult for ordinary citizens amidst rising inflation and unemployment.
He remarked that Pakistan is currently contending with both domestic and foreign challenges, and a policy of “political victimisation and suppression of democratic rights” was detrimental to the national interest.
Sheikh concluded by demanding that all of Imran Khan’s constitutional and legal rights be granted immediately and called for meaningful measures to be taken to secure political stability in the country.
He affirmed that PTI would persist in its struggle for the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, and democracy.
