The Government of Punjab has launched a major medical initiative for stroke patients from today, under which the lifesaving injection will be provided for free. The success of this treatment depends on the patient reaching a designated hospital within 4 to 5 hours of the stroke attack.
The injection costs 80 thousand rupees. If administered in a timely manner, it can significantly reduce the debilitating effects of a stroke and save a person from permanent disability.
This facility by the government is available 24/7 for individuals who have had a stroke, symptoms of which include paralysis of a part or half of the body. The aim of this program is to make the expensive treatment accessible to the public and save them from lifelong disability.
16 government hospitals across the province have been designated to provide the free TPA injection.
In Lahore, the institutions providing this facility include Services Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Punjab Institute of Neurosciences, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and Jinnah Hospital.
This service is also available at Allied Hospital and Aziz Fatimah Hospital in Faisalabad, Nishtar Hospital in Multan, and Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur.
