Punjab Government to announce first tourism policy soon: Usman Buzdar

Lahore, March 07, 2019 (PPI-OT): Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar presided over a high-level meeting at his office here on Thursday in which the performance of Tourism Department and developing of tourist spots were reviewed in detail. Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said that practical measures are being taken to promote the tourism sector adding that past governments totally ignored this important sector and nothing was done for the promotion of tourism.

The PTI government has prepared a comprehensive strategy to promote tourism and the first tourism policy of the Punjab government will be announced soon. The draft tourism policy has been given final shape which will be soon presented before the cabinet, he added. He said that guest houses and rest houses would be utilized for promoting tourism and added that 27 rest houses of Irrigation Department have been opened for the people. The people could online book them for the stay while other rest houses will soon be opened for the general public.

He said that tremendous tourism opportunities exist in Punjab. Fruit festival will be organized for promoting agri-tourism while desert safari will be introduced in Cholistan and Thal areas. The Chief Minister said that cultural shows should also be arranged along with desert safari and directed the Tourism Department to devise and implement a comprehensive plan in this regard. The development of new tourist spots will help to promote tourism along with opening new employment opportunities, he added. Provincial Minister for Tourism Yasir Humayun, Chairman P and D, Principal Secretary to CM, Secretary Tourism, spokesman to CM, MD TDCP and others attended the meeting.
