Rain in Ratodero kills three as roofs, walls collapse

RATODERO: Continuous heavy rain in Ratodero during 24 hours killed three people and caused collapse of roofs and walls of several houses besides damaging standing crops on thousands of acres in town’s surrounding region.

According to details, a 48-year-old woman, Nagina Khatoon, was killed and his 22-year-old Shah Rukh died when the roof of the house of Mohammad Aslam Surhio, a resident of Reshm Gali area of Ratodero city, collapsed.

The owner of the house, Muhammad Aslam Surhio, told media that Nirmal and Ratan Lal had a place near his house which was in a dilapidated condition and they had vacated their place. Surhio said he had asked them many times to repair their old home, but they did not done so, resultantly, the wall of their house fell on their roof which caused the incident.

A roof of villager Nasrullah Katiyan’s house collapsed in Taqi Katiyan near Ratodero, killing his nine-year-old son Mahmood Ali and injuring Nusrat Khatoon, Akhtar Khatoon, Sawera, Shayan and Aysha. The injured were admitted to the hospital.

The roofs and walls of other houses and shops also collapsed due to rain in Bhutta Wandh, Motanpur, Peeral Luhar Street and Bappar Mohalla of the city. Sajid Ali Memon, an employee of the taluka headquarter hospital, also died due to the falling of cement bars of Taluk Hospital Ratodero on him.

There is a flood of rain water in the village of Wali Muhammad Brohi, due to which many villagers have migrated from their village and hundreds of people are trapped and they are exposed to the rain. They are sitting under open sky. Due to the heavy rain, the electricity and communication systems are also disrupted. While the management of the municipality has become completely helpless for the disposal of standing rainwater in different areas of the city.

No relief has been given by the administration to the people affected by the rains. The victims have been forced to dispose of standing water in their homes and villages by themselves.
