Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed that financial aid under the upcoming Ramadan package be disbursed through digital wallets, a significant move intended to protect the dignity of recipients and support the nation”s shift toward a cashless economy.
Chairing a meeting in the capital, the prime minister instructed all relevant departments to prepare a relief programme for the holy month that is more effective and beneficial than the previous year”s initiative.
Mr Sharif emphasised that the financial support and social welfare of underprivileged citizens remain a principal focus for the government. He gave special instructions for all relevant ministries to ensure the coverage and inclusion of deserving beneficiaries are maximised.
For effective supervision, the prime minister also called for the implementation of a digital dashboard and an organised monitoring system to track the aid distribution process.
During the meeting, Mr Sharif praised the transparency of last year’s Ramadan package, highlighting a report from a reputable audit firm that affirmed its integrity.
He stated that the federal government has successfully established a transparent system since last year to provide essential food items to the poor at subsidised rates.
The prime minister contrasted this new approach with the previous utility store system, which he described as having been marred for decades by financial irregularities, mismanagement, and the exploitation of impoverished people.
