Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan has termed the rejection of the resolution to ban alcohol in the Sindh Assembly as a highly condemnable act, warning that the rulers are inviting divine wrath by disobeying religious commandments.
Dr. Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, who is also the head of the Milli Yakjehti Council Pakistan, expressed his strong disapproval of the legislative decision on Thursday.
Highlighting an “extremely shameful aspect,” he said the proposal was moved by a minority member who argued that alcohol is a social evil not permitted in any religion. Dr. Zubair said that the Muslim members of the assembly, by opposing the motion, “have bowed the heads of Muslims in shame.”
The religious leader drew a parallel to a past incident where a similar resolution, also moved by a minority representative in the National Assembly, was rejected by Muslim parliamentarians.
He also cited a Supreme Court decision that was against the prohibition of alcohol, stressing that these legislative and judicial outcomes are “completely against the Quran, Sunnah, and the Constitution of Pakistan.”
Dr. Zubair concluded with a stern warning, stating that officials “drunk with power” should not invite God’s wrath by openly disobeying Allah and His Messenger.
