Report accuses India of violating international norms in Kashmir

Islamabad, A new report by Kashmir Media Service has accused India of systematically violating international laws and conventions in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, alleging severe infringements on the basic rights of its residents. The report claims that the actions taken by Indian forces and governmental policies in the region amount to a concerted effort to alter the demographic and cultural landscape of the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian government is actively pursuing a Hindutva agenda that includes changing the demographic makeup of Jammu and Kashmir by issuing domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris at an accelerated rate and establishing separate settlements for Pandits and soldiers, reminiscent of strategies employed in Israeli-occupied territories. These actions have intensified since the revocation of Kashmir’s special status in August 2019.

The document details a variety of harsh measures purportedly used by Indian authorities to suppress the Kashmiri populace, including illegal property confiscations, forced evictions, and the dismissal of government employees. It also highlights the application of stringent laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to detain Kashmiris.

Moreover, the report argues that India is obstructing the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, a principle universally recognized and supported by UN resolutions. It calls for international intervention to resolve the Kashmir dispute and to protect the local population from what it describes as the “brutal onslaught” of the Modi administration’s policies.

The report concludes with a call for global accountability, urging the international community to take concrete steps to address the alleged violations and to ensure justice for the people of Kashmir.
