Srinagar, September 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):Dead body of a 35-year-old labourer, Ramashri, from India’ Madhya Pradesh was found hanging from a tree in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district on Tuesday as a fresh report revealed that 42,000 out of 164,000 suicides, took place in India last year, were daily wage workers.
The report by Deutsche Welle, Germany, said that one out of every four people who take their life in India is a daily wage labourer.
Achal Bhagat, a psychologist from Delhi, told media that the number of people taking their own lives has increased significantly in India. However, this number is likely to be much higher than the given data. He said that poverty can cause mental problems in many ways.
According to experts, the reason for the increase in suicide tendencies in India is unemployment, poverty, debt and issues such as reduction in wages. After examining the reasons behind the rising incidents of suicides, Achal Bhagat concluded that daily wage earners are worried that they cannot support their families with such a small amount of money and feel guilty for not fulfilling the demands of their families, which leads them to take their life.
The new victim, Ramashri, too, was a labourer who along with other labourers was living in Juggi area of Sunderbani.
On information by his fellow labourers, a police party rushed to the spot and shifted him to Sub District Hospital Sunderbani where doctors declared him brought dead.
