Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Karachi Division Senior Vice President and Chairman of Saddar Town, Mansoor Ahmed Sheikh, on Thursday termed the restrictions on meetings between PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan and his family members and personal physicians as a ‘serious violation of fundamental human rights”.
In a statement, Mr Sheikh said that preventing a national political leader from meeting his family members and personal medical practitioners was not only inhumane but also highly condemnable. He further said that denying access to close relatives and doctors had raised serious concerns regarding basic humanitarian and medical rights.
Sheikh described Imran Khan as a leader who had consistently raised his voice for the country’s development, sovereignty, and ‘true freedom,’ alleging that he was now being punished for maintaining his principled stance. He claimed that the treatment being meted out to the former prime minister had deeply hurt public sentiment and created unrest among citizens.
He further stated that history showed leaders who stood for their nations did not bow to pressure or retaliatory measures. ‘Countries progress through constitutional supremacy, rule of law, justice, and respect for the public mandate, not through political victimisation and denial of basic rights,’ he said.
Expressing concern over the country’s economic situation, Sheikh said that inflation had reached alarming levels while a significant portion of the population had fallen below the poverty line. He maintained that political vendettas, instead of addressing public issues, were not in the country’s interest.
He also stressed the need to respect the public mandate, warning that continued electoral manipulation and disregard for the will of voters could hinder national progress. Sheikh demanded the immediate restoration of Imran Khan’s meetings with his family and urged the authorities to allow access to his personal physicians to ensure the provision of necessary medical care and basic facilities.
