Review meeting of 100 MW solar power project in Gilgit-Baltistan held in Islamabad

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the rapid implementation of the 100 MW solar power project in Gilgit-Baltistan, stating that the federal government will bear all the expenses of this project.

During a comprehensive review meeting held today in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for speed, instructing that the project should be completed soon and that strict transparency should be ensured through independent third-party verification.

Officials highlighted the federal solar initiative, indicating the existence of an 18 MW solar power scheme for government buildings in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. This part targets the buildings of the Gilgit and Diamer divisions, planned to be completed by December 2026, while the completion of the Baltistan division is expected by October 2026.

Furthermore, the briefing highlighted ongoing efforts on an 82 MW solar power project to supply electricity to homes in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplu.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, among other senior officials.
