Romania Commends Pakistan’s Peacemaking Efforts Amidst 62-Year Friendship Celebration

Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, on Wednesday lauded Pakistan’s role in mediating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran during an event marking 62 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations at the Parliament House.

The commendation came during the inauguration of a pictorial exhibition, a gift from the Romanian Embassy, showcasing the long-standing ties between Pakistan and Romania since their establishment in 1964.

Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who inaugurated the display, described the collection of rare and historic photographs as a ‘powerful reflection of over six decades of friendship, cooperation, and shared aspirations.’

Mr Gilani expressed his appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the significance of people-to-people and parliamentary connections in reinforcing international partnerships.

‘These photographs are more than images; they represent a living timeline of sixty-two years of friendship between Pakistan and Romania,’ he stated, adding that each frame captures moments of mutual respect and a shared vision.

The Chairman noted that the exhibition features images of prominent leaders who were instrumental in nurturing the bilateral relationship, including former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, whose diplomatic outreach helped lay the foundations of the Pakistan-Romania friendship.

He also praised the efforts of the Pakistan-Romania Friendship Groups within both Houses of Parliament for their role in promoting parliamentary diplomacy and fostering closer engagement.

Ambassador Stoenescu reiterated the strong bond between the nations, announcing that a choral version of Pakistan”s national anthem is a gift from the people of Romania as a mark of enduring friendship. He also thanked Chairman Gilani for his commitment to reinforcing the bilateral ties.

The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan, State Minister of Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, Senator Rana Mehmood ul Hassan, MPA Syed Ali Haider Gilani, and Sharmila Faruqui, alongside other ambassadors and parliamentarians.
