Science-Arts Festival opens in Larkana

LARKANA: A three-day Science and Arts Festival was inaugurated by additional commissioner-I Ahmed Sultan Khoso at Government Girls Degree College Larkana on Tuesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Khoso said that models prepared by the girl students and their presentation had impressed him to the extent that he say that “our girls are not less than our MPhil scholars”. He said such festivals were needed very much in those hard times for which he congratulated the teachers of geography and Islamic studies. He said other colleges should also hold such festivals following this college so that knowledge of their students could also be enhanced, praised and highlighted.

Principal of the girls college Prof. Irshad Abbasi said that this college was one of the biggest and oldest colleges of northern Sindh and it was also followed by other institutions, she further claimed.

She said that today’s festival had proved that our children and teachers had more capabilities which needed to be appreciated.

Principal, Government Girls Degree College, Naundero, said that such festivals enhance the knowledge of the students which should be regularly held in all colleges of the province for the benefit of the students as students learn requisite subjects a lot more from these festivals.

Prof. Rizwan Gul, Head of Geography Department said that geography is a basic subject of science which is very easy to teach. He said students had prepared their models after months’ labour after highlighting physical, human, climate, coastal and other branches of geography and the same had been displayed at the festival.

Professors of Islamic Studies and organizers of the festival Professors Salma Abbasi and Shabnam Shaikh said that they had introduced a new trend through which teachings of our Holy Prophet (PBUH) could be explained through models and charts preparation of which continued since the last three months.

They said its a modern and purposeful method of teaching the students about Islam. Prof. Shazia Tabasum said that our students had more talent and we should benefit from their skills. Large number of girl students came from other colleges and watched their colleagues models with interest.
