SDGs Secretariat to hold National Speakers Dialogue on February 16th, 2023 

Islamabad, February 15, 2023 (PPI-OT):National Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs Secretariat) of the National Assembly is organizing National Speakers Dialogue, tomorrow, February 16th, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services, Islamabad. The event is organized in partnership with Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy and Development (LEAD) a project supported by the European Union.

The event is organized to bring together Members of National, Provincial and legislative assemblies, local Government Ministers, leaders of local governments and the policy makers from the all the provinces of Pakistan. The ultimate output expected from the Dialogue is to set the stage for the National and Provincial Task forces on SDGs to perform their effective role in the achievement of SDGs by facilitating the local governments to plan, execute and monitor the progress.

The keynote speakers at the event will include the Honourable Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division of Pakistan, Mr. Ayaz Sadiq, Honourable Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Convener of the SDGs Task force / Special Assistant to PM, and the provincial ministers. The honourable Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Mr. Raja Pervez Ashraf will be the chief guest at the ceremony.

A highlight of the dialogue will be panel discussions on, “Pakistan’s Commitment to SDGs Localization” which will provide a platform for parliamentarians and local councils to examine the practices and policies of the vision and strategy regarding localization. The panellists will also discuss the significant role of Parliamentary oversight in strengthening Local reporting on SDGs and assess stakeholders’ commitment to carrying out review and reporting as a vehicle for the Localization of SDGs, as well as the importance of meaningful participation in the political process.

This event will offer an opportunity for Parliamentarians to share their experiences and struggles, and work to promote the localization to local leadership positions. The convention will be open for media with the opportunity to interview Parliamentarians and local government representatives and gain valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities for improving engagement of National, Provincial, and Local Parliaments and processes for cascading localization in Pakistan. The National Speakers Dialogue serves as yet another example of the SDGs Secretariat’s commitment to its ongoing efforts to empower local leadership positions.
