Kashmiri students Aqeeb Hussain, Mujeeb Hussain, Muneeb Hussain, Umair Gul, Rayees Rasool, Khalid Bashir, Basharat Ali were among 10 Jawaharlal Nehru University students union members who were charge-sheeted by the police on the charge of raising slogans in favour of Kashmir freedom during a function in 2016.

He said that the persecution and serious intimidation of Kashmiris in the name of so-called national interest thus can only be termed as worst dictatorship.

“This incident is not an isolated one against Kashmiris as in the past, similar incidents have happened to them in various Indian states forcing them to drop the studies in the middle. He said, it is actually a deliberate hate campaign which has been unleashed on Kashmiris inside India and it has patronage of ruling dispensation in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement also denounced the sedition charges against Kashmiri students pursuing studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. A Muslim League spokesman said that the carrier of Kashmiri students outside the territory is being ruined on one pretext or the other.

The leaders said that to harass the Kashmiri students pursuing studies in India was not a new practice, earlier in many universities and colleges they were harassed and even beaten by extremist forces.
