Sehrai aghast over inhuman treatment to Kashmiri detainees

Srinagar, January 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, has condemned the inhuman treatment meted out to the Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in different jails of the territory and India.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed anguish over the prejudiced attitude of jail authorities against the Kashmiri detainees, terming it as blatant violation of human rights. The senior APHC leader citing the relatives of the inmates said, “Kashmiri detainees are ill-treated and harassed and even deprived of medical facilities. Some of their relatives have complained that the jail conditions were extremely insanitary and unhealthy.

“The inmates are not even permitted to accept the food that their visiting family members are getting along with during permitted visits. Jails officials have made the arbitrary manual which has taken heavy toll on inmates’ health,” he said.

He termed pro-India National Conference President Farooq Abdullah’s promise of appointing Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a political gimmick and said those involved in heinous crimes against the Kashmiris directly or indirectly should introspect before issuing such statements.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said it is irony that the party responsible for all the mess Kashmir has been witnessing since decades is demanding such commission. He said the people of occupied Kashmir vehemently reject the NC president’s demand as they do not expect justice from the system which is perpetrating human rights violations against the oppressed people of the territory. He said none of the victims of human rights violations in occupied Kashmir has got justice from the system “which is based on fraud and cheating”.
