Seminar held on promoting sustainable forest management in Pakistan

Islamabad, December 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): Ministry of Climate Change organized a national level workshop to share experiences about restoration of degraded forest land, carbon stock assessment, and preparation of management plans in Islamabad under the Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Project. The Sustainable Forest Management Project is a joint venture of the Ministry of Climate Change, UNDP-GEF which aims at promoting sustainable forest management in Pakistan’s temperate, scrub and riverine forest for climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation and enhancement of ecological services.

The Honorable advisor to Prime Minister for Climate and Environment, Mr. Malik Amin Aslam participated in the workshop. He was briefed about the activities like boundary demarcation of forests by Survey of Pakistan in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, formulation of forest and wildlife policy for Sindh, carbon stock assessment and capacity building of provincial forest departments.

He appreciated the work done by Sustainable Forest Management Project and emphasized to share this good work with all stakeholders. The Chief Conservators of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also present on the occasion. Mr. Amin Aslam directed the provinces to immediately restore the recovered areas by planting indigenous pant species and sowing of seeds.
