Shabbir Shah being punished for his truthfulness: DFP

Srinagar, June 29, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Democratic Freedom Party while expressing complete solidarity with its incarcerated chief and senior resistance leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, has expressed serious concern over the plight of political prisoners imprisoned in jails in and outside the occupied territory.

A DFP spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Shabbir Shah was suffering in Tihar jail only for advocating right to self-determination of his people. The illegally detained DFP Chairman has recently completed 32 years of his incarceration. The spokesman said that Shabbir Ahmad Shah was being punished only for being a truthful politician, ‘so jails and incarcerations are not new for him.’

He also expressed concern over the plight of other Kashmiri prisoners of Tihar and other jails of India and the occupied territory. He appealed to the international organizations working for prisoners to take practical steps to get hundreds of Kashmiri political prisoners released.

The DFP said the dispute over Kashmir involves the people of Kashmir, India and Pakistan and the latter two being nuclear powers constitute a potential threat to peace and stability in South Asia. “It is therefore responsibility of every sane world player to save the region’s stability by pursuing New Delhi to shun its stubbornness and come out with a vibrant political attitude to resolve the longest pending dispute on the agenda of UN Security Council.
