Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur on Thursday announced plans for the Pak-Turkey Friendship Week, scheduled to be held from October 28 to 30, 2025, with the celebrations coinciding with Turkey’s Republic Day on October 29. The initiative, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, aims to pay tribute to the historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and Turkey.

In a high-level meeting chaired by Dr. Khushk, approval was given to include seminars, cultural exhibitions, art displays, and a Turkish film show. The celebration aims to highlight the academic and cultural connections between the two countries. The Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission have encouraged institutions to commemorate Turkey’s national day week, and Shah Abdul Latif University is at the forefront of this initiative.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted the unity between the two nations, emphasizing a shared spirit despite being separate entities. The program aims to foster a sense of brotherhood and love among the youth, inspired by historical figures like Rumi and Allama Iqbal, who advocated for peace and humanity.

The planning meeting included representatives from Pak-Turk Maarif Schools and university officials. A key decision was made to establish a “Pak-Turk Society” at the university to sustain these cultural exchanges on a long-term basis. Various faculties will participate in organizing events based on academic and cultural ties.

Support from Pak-Turk Maarif Schools was confirmed, and prominent figures, including Dr. Halil Tokar of the Yunus Emre Institute Pakistan and scientist Dr. Zleyha Salihoglu, have consented to participate. Turkish scholars from esteemed institutions like Selçuk University and Istanbul University will also join the academic activities.

The main event will take place on October 29 at the Student Society Center, featuring flag-hoisting ceremonies, national anthems, poetry recitations, and cultural performances. These events will pay tribute to the intellectual legacy of Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, celebrating the deep-rooted connections between Pakistan and Turkey.
