KARACHI:Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) revealed on Tuesday that it has slapped a cumulative fine of Rs Rs2.6 million on seven healthcare providers and six healthcare establishments for violating health laws and regulations.
This was informed at the 11th meeting of SHCC’s complaint management and legal committee at its Karachi office, which was held under the chairmanship of Justice (R) Hassan Feroz. The meeting reviewed 13 complaint inquiry cases and discussed.
At the meeting, a total fine of Rs2.6 million was imposed on seven healthcare providers and six healthcare establishments, whereas immediate sealing of one healthcare establishments was recommended along with rectification measures that were suggested for eight healthcare establishments.
The penalties were imposed on inordinate delays in provision of medical care, failure to take informed consent, undertaking the management of patient without the availability of requisite competence, human resource, equipment and other facilities, failure to provide postoperative care and failure to foresee and take comprehensive precautionary measures against possible complications, system failures and possible mishaps which resulted in deaths of the patients and grievance in the public against provision of healthcare in the province. SHCC said that it was trying its best to improve provision of needed healthcare so that in future, those mistakes won’t be repeated.
