DADU: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah Monday visited Manchar Lake where he was briefed by the irrigation department official about the rising water situation and protective measure taken so far.

The irrigation department officials briefed the CM Sindh about the current water situation in the lake and Indus river barrages and said that Guddu Barrage had a water flow of 500,944 cusecs whereas Sukkur Barrage had a water flow of 530,750 cusecs. There is a crack in the Supreo Dam near Jatoi Goth while FP Barrage had also developed four cracks near Chaki.

They further added that two cracks had developed in Suprio Bund in front of Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah at RD-12 and RD-52 and Juhi Branch had been cut off at RD82 to divert water discharge.

“Water level in Manchar Lake has risen to 120.75 feet. The risk will be greater if water flow rises to 123 feet,” a spokesperson for the water resources told CM Sindh.

CM Murad said that the water level in Manchar would decrease in the next eight days. “Rational decisions need to be taken in order to save the citizens from submerging, he said.
