The Sindh government has launched a massive crackdown on counterfeit agricultural products, seizing 5,318 bags and cartons of fake fertilizers and pesticides across several districts, including Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Golarchi, and Sajawal.
Acting on the instructions of Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar, the provincial Agriculture Department conducted raids and gathered 59 suspect samples for laboratory analysis. The operation aims to safeguard farmers from the detrimental impacts of substandard agricultural inputs.
In Sajawal, authorities confiscated 400 bags of Hapo Granules and 68 bags of Vertaco products from an unlicensed dealer. In Golarchi’s Shaheed Fazil Rahu area, thousands of suspicious bags, including 1,000 bags of counterfeit Fertira Granules from FMC United Private Limited, were seized.
Over 40 samples of fertilizers and pesticides were collected from Sanghar and Shaheed Benazirabad and sent for laboratory testing, according to Agriculture Department spokesperson Imran Ali.
Agriculture Minister Mahar affirmed that strict legal measures are being taken against those selling spurious agricultural inputs to protect the financial well-being of the province’s farmers. The confiscated counterfeit pesticides were reportedly intended for pest control in rice crops.
