Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has called for immediate international cooperation to address the rapidly evident effects of climate change on Pakistan’s mountainous regions, warning that development is unattainable without environmental safety and the protection of natural resources.
In a special message on Thursday on the eve of International Mountain Day , the governor described the country’s mountains as the foundation of its environment, economy, and tourism, extending beyond their natural beauty.
Tessori articulated that these elevated terrains play a central role in maintaining climate stability, preserving crucial glaciers, and safeguarding the nation”s vital water resources.
Underscoring the significance of the mountainous areas in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir to national progress, he affirmed that ensuring the welfare, education, and economic access for local communities is a primary government objective.
The governor concluded by emphasizing that mountains are a national asset for the future and that their preservation is a collective duty shared by all.
