Sindh govt started repairing rain-damaged roads, tells Ghani

A spokesman for Sindh Local Government Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said the Karachi-based town and union committee chairmen belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami have started complaining about lack of powers following in the tradition of MQM’s way of doing politics. The spokesman for the Local Government Minister stated on Friday this while responding to the statement of the Opposition Leader in the City Council from JI, Saifuddin.

The spokesman said that only the provincial ministers, lawmakers, elected local government representatives from Pakistan People’s Party were seen helping out the people in distress during recent prolonged monsoon rains in Karachi. The spokesman advised Saifuddin to seek resignations from town and UC chairmen from JI on showing poor performance during recent rains in the city. He mentioned that the people of Karachi by overwhelmingly voting in favour of the PPP had buried the politics of hatred in the city.

The spokesman said the Sindh government had started the process of repairing the rain-damaged road networks in the city. The spokesman for the Local Government Minister mentioned that the Karachi Mayor had started action against the erring contractors and officials of Karachi on account of faulty construction of roads. He said the Sindh Chief Minister, Local Government Minister, other provincial ministers, PPP’s legislators, and elected like government representatives continued with their drive to assist people in need in Sindh after the monsoon season had ended.

The spokesman said the municipal agencies with their elected leadership had been performing their civic duties in Sindh including the sanitation work. He advised Saifuddin to resign from JI in protest against the failed political strategies of the leadership of his party.
