Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon today ordered the immediate commencement of the second phase for the distribution of electric scooters to women, aiming to enhance female mobility and independence across the province.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, which Memon chaired in his dual capacity as the Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit. The session was attended by key officials including Secretary Transport Asad Zamin and Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto.
Discussions during the meeting centered on the progress of ongoing and upcoming public conveyance projects. Senior Minister Memon stated that the “Pink Scooters” scheme is set to provide a significant number of women with modern, eco-friendly travel alternatives, thereby fostering greater comfort and autonomy.
The provincial administration also confirmed the arrival of new electric buses in Karachi, which are scheduled to begin operations on various urban routes shortly. Furthermore, surveys for four new bus routes in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Hyderabad have been finalized, with services expected to launch within this month.
To further alleviate traffic congestion, the minister proposed increasing the number of double-decker buses on major city thoroughfares. He highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to developing a modern and sustainable transit network.
Memon outlined a comprehensive vision for improved urban mobility, which includes the integration of EV buses, EV scooters, double-decker buses, and a forthcoming EV taxi service. He concluded by directing officials to ensure all public-facing projects are completed within their designated timelines to avoid any inconvenience to residents.
