Sindh Minister Pledges Priority Action for Facilitating Fishermen

Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malkani, today vowed to resolve the pressing issues confronting the fishing community at Karachi Fish Harbor on a priority basis, directing an inquiry into a plea for fee concessions to ease their difficulties.

The minister’s commitment was announced during a high-level meeting with Fatima Majeed, the Chairperson of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS). He affirmed that all challenges, from fishing to bringing the catch to market, would be addressed jointly with the FCS in accordance with the law.

Present at the significant gathering were Secretary Livestock and Fisheries Dr. Kazim Hussain Jatoi, Managing Director of Karachi Fisheries Harbor Authority Zahid Khemitio, and senior officials from both organizations.

During the discussion, Chairperson Majeed made a formal request for fee concessions to alleviate the financial strain on fishermen.

In response, Minister Malkani instructed that such a proposal must be brought before the board of the Karachi Fish Harbor Authority. He clarified that the matter would be discussed and considered according to the board”s approved regulations.

Malkani underscored the government”s dedication to providing all necessary facilities to the fishing community, ensuring they can sustain their livelihoods and continue their activities smoothly. He directed that the issue be settled promptly to remove obstacles faced by fishermen in marketing their seafood.
