The Inspector General of Sindh Police today mandated the implementation of foolproof security protocols and effective traffic management for the Christian community”s Christmas celebrations across the province.
The directive was issued following a formal request from Sukhdev Hemnani, Spokesperson for the Government of Sindh and a member of the Sindh Human Rights Commission.
In his letter to the provincial police chief, Hemnani emphasized the necessity for heightened vigilance and coordinated safety planning at churches, places of worship, and communal gathering spaces.
The correspondence highlighted constitutional protections for citizens, specifically citing Article 9 (right to life and liberty), Article 20 (freedom of religion), Article 25 (equality before law), and Article 36 (protection of minorities).
In accordance with the directive, all regional Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) have been instructed to devise and execute comprehensive security and traffic control strategies.
Hemnani stressed that safeguarding religious minorities and their sacred sites is a constitutional obligation and a central priority for the Sindh Government.
He noted that the provincial administration, under the policy direction of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, continues to develop institutional measures to protect minority rights and foster interfaith harmony.
The spokesperson affirmed that the Sindh Government will maintain full vigilance during the Christmas period, with all relevant departments ordered to guarantee a peaceful and secure environment throughout the province.
