Sindh is grappling with a significant rise in dengue fever, as health officials confirmed 1,124 new positive cases across the province within the last 24 hours. The figure emerged from a total of 5,393 diagnostic tests conducted, according to an updated report issued Friday by the Sindh Health Department.
The data reveals that Karachi Division is a major epicenter, where 4,001 tests were carried out, resulting in 589 confirmed infections. Hyderabad Division also shows a high prevalence, with 535 individuals testing positive from 1,392 screenings.
Sindh Health Secretary Rehan Baloch confirmed that hospitals are experiencing a substantial patient influx, with 212 new admissions recorded in a single day. Of these, 111 were admitted to government hospitals and 101 to private healthcare facilities.
During the same period, 196 patients recovered and were discharged, with 97 leaving public hospitals and 99 from private ones. Currently, 449 dengue patients remain hospitalized across Sindh, with 244 receiving care in the public sector and 205 in private institutions.
In a positive development, the official report noted that no dengue-related deaths were registered anywhere in the province over the 24-hour cycle.
To accommodate the growing number of patients, provincial authorities have allocated 1,461 beds for dengue treatment. This includes 987 beds in government hospitals and 474 in the private sector, distributed across Karachi, Hyderabad, and the rest of Sindh.
The Health Department is compiling its data from a network of 52 laboratories. This infrastructure includes 34 testing facilities in Karachi and 18 in Hyderabad Division, comprising both public and private labs.
