The Meteorological Department has forecast a blanket of smog to persist in some plain areas of Punjab, while the northern areas of the country are in the grip of sub-zero temperatures.
According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department on Sunday, the weather will remain mainly dry in most parts of the country. However, the weather is likely to be severe cold in the mountainous areas, especially during the morning and night hours.
The temperatures recorded this morning highlighted the sharp contrast between the regions. Quetta recorded minus one and Gilgit minus two degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Islamabad recorded seven, Peshawar eight, and Lahore twelve degrees Celsius. The coastal city of Karachi had a temperature of seventeen degrees, while Murree and Muzaffarabad both recorded five degrees Celsius.
In occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the weather is forecast to be dry and cold in Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramulla. The weather is expected to be severe cold in Leh, while it is expected to remain dry in Jammu as well.
According to the temperatures recorded in the region, Leh was the coldest place at minus six degrees Celsius. Minus one degree was recorded in Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian, and Baramulla. The temperature in Anantnag was zero degrees Celsius, while the morning temperature in Jammu was recorded at eleven degrees.
