Social Media Protection Authority Established, New System to Tackle Cybercrime

Under the PECA Act 2025, the FIA has established the Social Media Protection Authority, aimed at safeguarding the rights of those working on social media and ensuring online safety.

The authority will be responsible for preventing illegal activities on social media. In this regard, a briefing was given to the Chief Minister of Sindh at the Apex Committee meeting here today.

Social media is being registered and formally regulated to enable action against misinformation and false propaganda.

The Chief Minister of Sindh has established a cell in the Home Department to take action against those who post illegal content on social media.

It was decided in the meeting that coordination between the FIA Cyber Wing and the PTA with the Home Department will be increased to effectively counter the misuse of social media.

Guidelines, instructions, and standards are being set for social media to provide a positive and safe environment on online platforms.
