The second edition of the Sohail University National Tennis Championship has started today with enthusiasm at Karachi’s Modern Club, promising an exciting week of high-quality tennis. Organized by Sohail University and conducted through the Sindh Tennis Association and Karachi Tennis Association, this event is being held under the auspices of the Pakistan Tennis Federation.
The competition began splendidly, showcasing promising talent in several categories. In the Junior Under 18 Singles qualifying round, Zaid Ali defeated Muzammil Yasin 8-2. Similarly, Muzammil Ubaid and Sameer Khan achieved significant victories against their opponents Ibrahim Qazi and Uzair Khan. Mubashir Mumtaz also displayed excellent performance, defeating Syed Hanzala 8-1.
In the main draw of Under 14 Singles, Muhammad Sohail Malik defeated Sadiq Muhammad Sami with scores of 4-2, 4-1, while Nial Saheb defeated Suleman Jan 5-3, 5-3. Tarhan advanced to the next round without contest as Zubair gave a walkover.
In the main draw of Under 12 Singles, Raheem Faisal demonstrated his dominance by defeating Ayan Essa Ji 4-0, 4-0.
In the Men’s Singles qualifying round, a tough competition saw Huzaifa Lakhani narrowly defeat Rehan Dilara 9-7. In the main draw of Men’s Singles, Haziq Arijo, Hamza Pasha, Rohaib Faisal, Zain Nomi, and Raheem Waqar advanced after strong performances.
There were also interesting matches in the main draw of Women’s Singles. Dinara Akram defeated Dua Yousuf 8-3, while Araj Batool achieved an 8-0 victory against Iqra. Warisha Khan and Mishal Hussain won their matches, while Amelia advanced after a walkover against Sabrina.
In the main draw of Under 10 Singles, Shania Sheikh and Sarah Sulaiman both achieved decisive victories of 4-0, 4-0 against their opponents. Rao Abdul Rahman also secured a place in the next stage by defeating Zain Nomi 4-2, 5-3.
The official opening ceremony of the championship will be held on Monday, 8th June at 5:30 PM at Modern Club, with Sohail University’s Registrar Dr. Sabih Jafri attending as the chief guest.
